Det. Craig Kaul

Detective III Craig Kaul has been a senior investigator in Force Investigation Division (FID) for twelve years, where he currently oversees one of the administrative investigation teams.
A 29-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department, Craig's assignments included patrol, criminal and administrative investigations, field supervisor, detective supervisor, and an Internal Affairs investigator.
Craig was a contributing member for the FID operations guidelines. He has taught officer involved shooting investigations to members of the law enforcement community from coast to coast. He has conducted in house training sessions for the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department and various Connecticut State police departments including the Hartford Connecticut Police Department and the Connecticut State Police. He has received extensive training on conducting use of force investigations including homicide, computer crime, use of lethal force, interrogations and questioning, cognitive interviewing, in custody death investigations, and officer involved shooting schools. He received additional training at Americans for Effective Law Enforcement (AELE) conferences and the Institute for the Prevention of In-Custody Deaths.
He is certified by the Force Science Research Center at Minnesota State University in force science application and principles. He has completed study programs at Northwestern University, Center for Public Safety program for officer involved shooting reconstruction, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) school of law for deposition questioning, and UCLA Department of psychology for cognitive interviewing. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from California State University, Northridge.
